Mike Gravel was an Alaskan senator from 1969 to 1981. During his time as a senator he was best known for his efforts towards ending the military draft and for reading the Pentagon Papers into the public record in 1971.

He currently resides in Virginia and is running for the democratic presidential nomination.

While polls show Gravel with little support, Gravel makes the point that early polls are little more than name recognition. Many Gravel supporters are confident that when America learns about Gravel's stances on the issues and his no nonsense approach that they will want to support him.
