Mike Gravel - On The Issues
Friday, July 13, 2007
Imagine if people actually voted based on where the candidates stand on the issues. I think if there were no mainstream media telling us that only Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have any shot at winning the democratic nomination then the real front runners for the Democratic nomination based on the issues would be Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel.Today I want to highlight Mike Gravel's positions.
Iraq - Immediate & complete withdrawal. Gravel was telling the truth about the Iraq war while other democratic candidates like Hillary Clinton and John Edwards were voting for the war! It's not even close on this issue. This war was corrupt from the start. Why not vote for someone who was saying it was corrupt from the start? Don't we deserve that kind of vision and leadership from our president?
Terrorism - The terrorism problem is a real concern but characterizing it as a "War" is nothing but fear mongering. Gravel's approach on terrorism will have real results rather than the continued escalation that we see from the current "War" approach.
Veterans - Perhaps the most despicable thing about war mongers like George W Bush and his ilk is that they don't even care for the people that go and fight these wars. For Mike Gravel meeting the needs of veterans is not a "special" interest but a primary interest.
Ending The Income Tax - Our tax system is corrupt. Gravel is the only Democratic candidate who is really tackling this issue. Gravel wants to end the IRS and replace it with a progressive national sales tax. Why? Because our current tax code is so filled with loopholes that most rich people and businesses do not pay their fair share.
Universal Health Care - Gravel supports universal health care for all Americans. No one would ever be turned down for medical services because of their financial situation under Gravel's plan.
Global Warming - Unlike the current administration Mike Gravel believes in science. He knows that climate change is a major problem and he will make sure that we take the steps necessary to protect our future.
Gay Rights - Gravel supports same sex marriage. Gravel is very strong against the discrimination of gays.
Drugs - Gravel supports the decriminalization of marijuana and the regulation of harder drugs such as heroin. As Gravel so eloquently states "Addiction is a public health problem not a criminal problem."
