Where does Republican Mitt Romney stand on the issues?

Abortion - This is an issue that could hurt Romney both with the ultra conservative Republican base and with independents. Why? Because he's stood on both sides of this issue. He was pro-choice as Governor of Massachusetts but has changed his stance as a Republican Presidential candidate in an obvious move to pander to the fundamentalist Christians that helped get George W. Bush elected. The question is will they buy it with his pro-choice past?

Civil Rights - Romney wants to keep the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy that the Democrats want to change to allow homosexuals to openly serve in the military. Romney is strongly against gay marriage but he was Governor of Mass. when it became the first state to allow gay marriage.

Death Penalty - Supports the death penalty.

Education - Supports abstinence education. Supports No Child Left Behind (George W. Bush's failed education policy.) He previously supported abolishing the federal Department of Education.

Energy - Romney supports drilling in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge. Romney has not taken a strong stance on alternative energy which most likely means that Romney would have policies in line with Bush's. In other words he will be in bed with "Big Oil."

Foreign Policy - Romney has not differentiated himself from Bush's failed foreign policy. Romney represents more of the same.

Gun Control - This is another issue that could hurt Romney with the fanatical Republican base. While he does support 2nd Amendment rights he also supports an assault weapons ban.

Health Care - According to FactCheck his proposed health care plan is virtually the same as Barack Obama's. This is probably indicative of Obama's plan's weakness than any strength in Romney's plan. Sadly only Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel are currently supporting the much needed true universal health care.

Homeland Security - Romney wants to double Guantanamo. This is a true outrage because Guantanamo should be shut down entirely. Romney supports FBI wiretaps and spying. In other words Romney is fine with taking away your civil liberties. Romney represents more of the same.

Immigration - Romney opposes the McCain/Bush stance on immigration.

Taxes - Romney wasts to end taxes on interest, dividends, and capital gains. This sort of tax cut is aimed at the rich.

Iraq - Romney has not differentiated himself greatly from Bush's failed Iraq policies. He has said withdrawing from Iraq would be a "mistake."

We'd love to let you know what Romney thinks about issues like corporate abuse, the environment, and the war on drugs but Romney hasn't said much about these issues.

Overall Romney varies little from George W. Bush on most important topics. Before voting for Mitt Romney consider if you would vote for another 4 years of George W. Bush. If you would not, then you should also not vote for Mitt Romney.
