2010 Midterms Looking Better For The Democratic Party

Some recent results from Gallup polls indicate that the prospects for the Democratic Party for the 2010 midterms are looking better. Here they are:

(1) Republican advantage in “voter enthusiasm” has shrunk to just 10 percentage points (43% to 33%) from 19 percentage points about a month ago. If the Democrats can continue to shrink this gap then the Republicans may not pick up nearly as many seats as many are projecting they will now.

(2) President Obama’s approval rating is now at a +7 (50% approve vs 43% disapprove.) If Obama is above 50% on November 2nd (that’s Election Day) then that should be a big positive for the Democratic Party.

(3) The “underemployment” percentage is down to 18.7% which is the lowest I’ve seen it at since Gallup introduced it. This indicates that the economic recovery is starting to be felt in people’s lives in a real way. Voters should reward President Obama and his allies in the Democratic Party for turning the Bush Recession into the Obama Economic Recovery.
