A Comparison Of John McCain’s Affair With John Edwards’

The media is certainly making a big deal about John Edwards’ recent admission of an extramarital affair, yet they’ve barely (if at all?) mentioned that John McCain had multiple affairs while married to his first wife (who was disabled and who patiently waited for McCain during the 6 years he was a POW.)

He actually married his current wife (who was much younger and had a great personal fortune) just over a month after his divorce was finalized.

The media’s playing up of the Edwards affair and omission of the McCain affair seems exceedingly strange to me considering that Edwards is now basically politically irrelevant. He holds no official position in the Democratic party and he is not a part of the Obama campaign. Meanwhile John McCain is the Republican nominee for President, if anyone’s admitted infidelity should be an issue, it is his.

Read about how McCain’s affair strained his relationship with the Reagans.

This article at AlterNet compares the affairs of McCain & Edwards.

If anyone is going to win the “family values” battle in this election it should be Barack Obama who has no history of extramarital affair and has been involved in no major scandals (John McCain was involved in one of the biggest scandals of the last 20 years: The Keating Five.)

  1. I think we all get what we deserve. Elizabeth Edwards knew about her husband’s affairs back in 2006. Had Ms. Edwards told John the fact that the affair would come out sometime (as Rielle Hunter had told many people plus she was pregnant later)? What about the 1/3 of Iowa voters who were duped by John Edwards would have helped put Hillary on top? Seems like Elizabeth has some moral issues of her own. Elizabeth Edwards drank the koolaid (like Hillary Clinton did when Bill dated Jennifer Flowers as governor for 12 years!) and refused to call her husband on his infidelities. Now, Elizabeth is stuck in the lies of John and all the after-effects. Elizabeth’s power-drunk quest for power with John left out the later feelings of three innocent victims who will forever be scarred by this enabled betrayal: the Edwards’ young chidren. God help Elizabeth’s soul!

  2. roy, miss the point much?

First of all – This idea that Clinton would have won Iowa without Edwards in is complete BS. Obama would have won by MORE if Edwards was not in. It was Edwards dropping out when he did that enabled Obama to do so well on Super Tuesday as almost all of Edwards supporters went to Obama. Most Edwards supporters second choice was Obama, not Clinton – thus Edwards going out earlier would have actually helped Obama more, not Clinton.

Secondly – The point is that John McCain, who is actually relevant as he’s the Republican nominee for President, has a history of affairs – shouldn’t that be a bigger story than the affairs of a man who has nothing to do with this election?

  3. Also I must also say that I hate the soap opera BS you injected into your comment. It’s none of your Goddamn business what Elizabeth Edwards did or how it effects their children.
