ABC News Loses Debate & All Journalistic Credibility

I’d like to report on the issues discussed at tonight’s Democratic debate moderated & televised by ABC News but there were next to no actual issues discussed. The moderators (George Stephanopolous & Charles Gibson) made sure of that. Instead of asking about the issues facing America (the economy, Iraq, & health care for a few examples) they instead asked a string of nonsense questions about the mainstream media’s trumped up “controversies” such as Barack Obama wearing (or not wearing) flag lapel pin. Is this ABC News or the National Enquirer?

It’s time that people reject this type of journalism (and many in the crowd were doing just that by booing the moderators towards the end of the “Debate.”)

This was less of a debate and more of a right wing hit job. These are the types of “issues” that the GOP has been using to fool people into voting for the likes of George W. Bush. You see if middle & lower class Americans actually vote on the issues and not on this type of nonsense then the elections would not even be close. Why would a middle class person vote to give more tax breaks to corporations and to get our country into more unneeded wars? They aren’t going to do that. You have to make the election about something else rather than the issues. You have to make it about one stupid soundbite (2000: “I invented the internet.” 2004: “I voted against it before… “) and then you just repeat that soundbite over and over again until that’s all voters can think about while they are pulling the lever. It’s something like thought control, although that may be slightly too strong of a term to use.

The neocons would love to make this election about “bitter” or about Jeremiah Wright or about some other absolute nonsense that has absolutely nothing to do with anything. They would love that because if the election is about the economy and about Iraq then their man (McCain) has absolutely no chance of winning.
