Gore ran for the Democratic nomination in 1988. Gore did not win, and the nomination eventually went to Michael Dukakis.
Gore was elected Vice President as Bill Clinton’s running mate in 1992 & 1996.
Gore was the Democratic nominee in 2000 and lost to George W. Bush in a very controversial election which saw Bush come out on top despite Gore winning the US popular vote by about one half million votes.
