Barack Obama Gaining Support From Some Republicans

The New York Sun ran a story today about how anti-war/anti-Bush Republicans are turning away from McCain and turning towards Barack Obama.

“Obamacans” is the term that has been coined for Obama leaning Republicans. Among the “Obamacans” is the senior legal adviser to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, Douglas Kmiec. Considering that Romney is a potential VP running mate for McCain that’s quite interesting indeed.

Another “Obamacan” is Dwight Eisenhower’s granddaughter, Susan Eisenhower. She worked on Gorge H.W. Bush’s presidential campaign in 1988 but this year she supports Barack Obama.

Eisenhower says “The critical thing about his candidacy is that he has the capacity to attract Republicans in a way Hillary Clinton does not. She does not represent much of a difference with John McCain. The difference between her candidacy and John McCain’s isn’t as stark, especially in the foreign policy area.”

Eisenhower’s words should scare off any Democrat from supporting Hillary Clinton. When Republicans don’t see much difference between her foreign policy and that of John McCain, you should realize that Clinton is not the right choice for true anti-war Democrats.

Republicans endorsing Barack Obama is obviously great news for the Democrats chances of winning in November because Obama gaining any kind of sizable Republican support will make it next to impossible for McCain to win the presidency.
