Barack Obama Wins Big In South Carolina
By ThePresidentialCandidates.US on Jan 27, 2008 in Barack Obama
Barack Obama beat Hillary Clinton in a landslide in South Carolina yesterday.
Obama won with 55% of the vote, Clinton came in second with 27%, and John Edwards was third with 18%. Mike Gravel is the only other current Democratic candidate and he finished under 1%.
While Obama was projected to win South Carolina in all the major polls, many were hesitant to call it a sure thing after his poll lead evaporated in New Hampshire. But this time not only did he do as well as the polls showed he would, he actually did even better.
Zogby’s final South Carolina poll gave Obama a 15% point lead yet he actually won by 28% points.
This landslide victory puts the momentum back in Obama’s hands heading into Florida’s primary on Tuesday and Super Tuesday on February 5th.
The most recent polls show Clinton with a big lead (about 15% points) in Florida but Obama’s landslide South Carolina victory should give him a big bounce.
Obama picked up the endorsement of Ted Kennedy today which should help him in the upcoming primaries particularly in Kennedy’s home state of Massachusetts.
