Do McCain/Palin Want To Get Rid Of Medicare & Social Security?
By ThePresidentialCandidates.US on Oct 28, 2008 in John McCain
You may have noticed that McCain/Palin/Fox News have been calling Barack Obama a “socialist” over the past week or so as their latest in a long line of name calling attacks.
They appear to be making this claim based entirely on the fact that Obama wants to let the Bush tax cuts lapse. The same tax cuts that John McCain himself used to be against (does that mean John McCain is a recovering socialist?)
So according to the McCain/Palin/Fox News campaign raising taxes on the rich (while giving tax cuts the vast majority of working Americans) is “socialism.” The big problem with this (besides the fact that McCain used to be fore the exact same plan before he moved to the right to win the GOP nomination) is that America has had a progressive tax system for a long long time. The only issue has been how progressive should it be. Unless McCain/Palin are calling for a flat tax (and they haven’t) they really don’t have a leg to stand on.
Furthermore, all taxes are “redistributive” by their nature. It’s an absolutely meaningless term that the McCain/Palin/Fox News team is throwing out there for the low information voters to feed on.
Do McCain/Palin want to get rid of Medicare and Social Security?
Medicare & Social Security are two of America’s most well known and well liked social programs. Read that line again. Yes, of course, Medicare & Social Security are both SOCIALIST programs. So if McCain/Palin/Fox News are so “anti socialist” then certainly they are against these two socialist programs?
Where’s the interviewer to ask McCain/Palin that question?
