Executive Power

Perhaps one of the most dangerous things that the Bush administration has done over the last seven years is it’s extreme expansion of executive power. Our system of government is set up with what is commonly referred to as “checks and balances.” We are not supposed to allow one group and certainly not one person any huge amount of power. The founding fathers thought that such an abuse of power could be the undoing of our country and that’s why the constitution was written as it was with the system of checks and balances in place.

The candidates running for president have a wide range of views on this expansion of executive power. On the Republican side only Ron Paul and John McCain seem to have any real respect for the constitution and for limiting the power of the President. On the Democratic side things are not as bad with most candidates stating that the extra powers the Bush administration has pushed for should be taken away from the President.
