Five Corporate Democrats Vote Against The Very Popular Public Option

President Obama and the majority of Democrats, Independents, and even Republicans support the public option yet five Democrats voted against the public option amendment by Jay Rockefeller yesterday. By doing so, they made it clear that they don’t work for the American people, instead they work for the health insurance industry.

People expect Republicans to be this corrupt (and to be sure, all the Republicans voted against it) but we do expect more from the Democratic party. This is certainly not what they were elected to do. Instead of respecting the will of the voters, they are following the will of the insurance industry (who gives them millions of dollars.)

Overall: 65% support, 26% oppose
Democrats: 81% support, 12% oppose
Republicans: 47% support, 42% oppose
Independents: 61% support, 30% oppose
