Huckabee Drops Out, Paul Remains

With John McCain’s big victories yesterday, Mike Huckabee has decided to end his run for the Republican nomination. Only McCain & Ron Paul remain.

Huckabee encouraged his supporters to get behind John McCain’s run for president. Huckabee’s social conservative supporters will be essential for McCain to have any real chance vs. Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton in the general election. McCain is not popular with this group and many have predicted that they will stay home rather than vote for McCain.

Results from yesterday’s Republican primaries:

Texas (100% reporting)

McCain 51%
Huckabee 38%
Paul 5%

Ohio (99% reporting)

McCain 60%
Huckabee 31%
Paul 5%

Rhode Island (98% reporting)

McCain 65%
Huckabee 22%
Paul 7%

Vermont (86% reporting)

McCain 72%
Huckabee 14%
Paul 7%

  1. I’m shocked and disappointed that Huckabee would take money from struggling, hard-working Americans in order to fund his campaign. He said in his drop-out speech that it was…”the sacrifices of a truck driver in Michigan, of a housewife who sold her wedding ring on eBay and gave the contribution to the campaign, a janitor in Alabama who has a wife in a wheelchair who gave $20, not out of his abundance, but out of his poverty, so that our campaign could stay on the track.” In a bad economy, why would someone running for President take their money to fund a campaign that was clearly going to be fruitless? What would become of the economy if selfish Huckabee were President?
