Jim Webb Is Out As VP – Who Is In?

Virginia Senator Jim Webb was seen by many as a favorite to be Obama’s VP selection but he has withdrawn himself from consideration.

Below you’ll find the names currently being circulated for Obama’s VP choice:

Hillary Clinton

Clinton could help to further unite the Democratic party but she could also help to unite the Republican party against an Obama/Clinton ticket. The big negative would be the “circus” atmosphere that Clinton as VP would bring to the campaign. The big positives would be getting a greater percentage of Clinton’s primary supporters on board and possibly increasing fund raising.

Evan Bayh

Indiana Senator. A Clinton “surrogate.”

Joe Biden

Boatloads of experience, particularly in foreign policy.

Wes Clark

Clark probably doesn’t have much of a chance after the media created controversy over his statements regarding McCain’s military service not being applicable to the office of the Presidency.

Mike Bloomberg

A very long shot, doesn’t look very likely at this point. Would help Obama appeal to the middle & Bloomberg would give the ticket huge economic credentials when the economy is the #1 issue on most voter’s minds.

John Edwards

Edwards has been saying he is not interested in the position for a long time. Doesn’t look very likely.

Chuck Hagel

Hagel is a Republican, this would be a very interesting choice that may help Obama pick off middle of the road voters, but it may also alienate some of his more liberal supporters.

Al Gore

Gore hasn’t shown any interest in being VP again so this looks like an extreme long shot. But it’s hard to imagine an Obama/Gore ticket not winning.

Tim Kaine

Virginia governor. With Virginia looking like it could be THE swing state this year, Kaine is an interesting possibility.

Claire McCaskill

Would McCaskill rally women to the cause?

Bill Richardson

Richardson has a lot of foreign policy experience and could help with Latino voters which are becoming a very important voting bloc in many states. Some fear this ticket would be “too ethnic.” Yes, it’s 2008 and such a ridiculous fear still exists.

Kathleen Sebelius

Sebelius has managed to win two terms as Governor in the deep red state of Kansas.

Dick Gephardt

Gephardt has a lot of experience.
