Rudy Giuliani On Freedom

Thursday, December 20, 2007

This is what Rudy Giuliani had to say about freedom in 1994:

"What we don’t see is that freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be. Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do."

I think Giuliani's definition of freedom differs greatly from both the dictionary's and the founding fathers of this country.

You cannot get more anti-American than Rudy Giuliani. He is the antithesis of everything America is truly about.

Clinton Stomps Giuliani In NYC Poll

Wednesday, November 07, 2007

Because Rudy Giuliani bases his entire campaign on his service as mayor of New York City it's quite telling what the citizens of the city itself think of him. In the most recent Zogby poll Hillary Clinton beat Rudy Giuliani 55 to 27 percent (more than double) in a hypothetical head to head match up of the frontrunners of their respective parties.

Rudy Giuliani Lies About Health Care

Monday, July 23, 2007

Rudy Giuliani, Republican candidate for president, had a campaign stop in Iowa on Friday.

Guiliani had this to say about Universal Health Care:

"We don't want socialized medicine. Maybe you should go see 'Sicko,' see if you agree with Michael Moore that we should have the Cuban health care system. That's where the Democrats are taking us… All the places that have government-run health care, it's inferior to us. We've got to preserve our private system. People will have to earn some of that access. Let's not become a nanny state. You don't help somebody when you make them dependent. You make it within their realm to do it, but give them a chance to earn it. The system gets destroyed when you start making big promises."

Lies:

1. "See if you agree with Michael Moore that we should have the Cuban health care system."

Michael Moore does not say we should have a Cuban health care system in the movie. Other systems for health care are shown including the French, English, and Canadian systems. These systems all far out perform the American system, it is not even close. Moore is recommending we learn from the success of other countries and create our own Universal Health Care system which takes the best from all the other systems to create an even better system. There is no reason why we cannot have the best health care in the world.

It is also shown in the movie that the Cuban health care system gets a lot more "bang for it's buck." They spend only $251 per person yet they rank #39 in the world in health care. In America we spend over $7,000 per person yet rank only 2 slots higher at #37. That we (an extremely rich country) rank only 2 slots higher than a very poor country like Cuba is a disgrace.

2. "All the places that have government-run health care, it's inferior to us."

This is just a flat out lie. We rank #37 in the world in health care. All 36 of the countries in front of us have government run health care. They all have Universal Health Care systems. We have nearly 50 million Americans who are not covered for health care in our country. How is this acceptable?

The insurance companies get money by NOT supplying you with health care. How is this a good idea? Money controls the health care in this country instead of the needs of the sick. This is why we lag so far behind.

People cannot continue to accept these lies. The only reason Rudy Guiliani is saying these things is because he is bought and paid for by the insurance industry. You cannot trust this man. He does not have your interests at heart. How much longer can we take this before people wake up and start voting for their own interests?

3. "We've got to preserve our private system"

It's clearly not because of the service that we are getting that this system should be preserved. It's only because it's making a lot of insurance company executives very very rich. These same people give large sums of money to candidates like Rudy Giuliani.

4. "The system gets destroyed when you start making big promises"

Our system is already failing. As I mentioned earlier we have nearly 50 million people in this country without any health insurance. We have 18,000 people who die every year in this country simply because they do not have health insurance. Sick people are kicked to the curb in this country every day. It is not right.

---

People who say we should be scared of socialized health care should think about some of the other services that are socialized in this country. The police and the fire department come to mind. The library system. The postal service. These things are all government run and thankfully so. Can you imagine if the fire department was privately owned and they only put out a fire if you paid them first? That sounds pretty insane doesn't it? How is it anymore insane than only helping sick people if they pay for health insurance first?

Think about this. Truly think about it. Our health care system is an absolute disgrace. A nightmare. It is absolutely unacceptable that a country of our wealth can allow so many sick people to go without care.

Universal Health Care (without insurance companies involved at all) must be the goal. The propaganda to convince you that our current system is great is produced by the health insurance industry that is making billions of dollars. Look at the facts! Our current system is not working. Their only chance it to tell outright lies like their bought and paid for spokesmen like Rudy Giuliani. Do not accept these lies anymore.

Money In The 2008 Presidential Election - Open Secrets

Monday, July 16, 2007

You can follow the money in the 2008 presidential election at OpenSecrets.org

I think it's extremely unfortunate the great role that money plays in our political system. Those that really challenge our current system and the corporations that control it are not getting the money they need to compete.

While real political junkies like me and you (I'm assuming since you're reading this site) may read up on the candidates positions, the average voter does not. They are voting based on the commercials and media coverage they see. The commercials that some candidates cannot afford and the media coverage that barely mentions those candidates except to marginalize their candidacies.

If only the candidates who want to bring real change (Mike Gravel & Dennis Kucinich) could get the same exposure the "top tier" candidates are getting.

I'm positive that if the American people were to be well informed on the issues and to know where the candidates stood on those issues that this election would come down to Gravel vs. Kucinich: Who has the better plan for America?

It's not Hillary Clinton and it's certainly not Rudy Giuliani. These people represent nothing but politics as usual. Corporate sponsored politicians who will likely do little to better our country (Clinton) or even worse continue down the same path as George W. Bush (Guiliani.)

Rudy Giuliani - Exactly What We Don't Need

Tuesday, July 10, 2007

What is Rudy Giuliani running on? Isn't it just the fact that he was in NYC on 9/11? So were 8 million other people, does that qualify them to be president?

Let's take a look at where Rudy Giuliani stands on the issues:

Terrorism

His rhetoric on the "War on Terror" is very similar to the current administrations. Do we really want more of the same? The Bush administration has been a monumental failure in all regards. To continue on the same path would be a disaster. On his website he states in regard to terrorism; "weakness only encourages aggression," I guess this means he hasn't read those books recommended by Ron Paul? If weakness encouraged aggression then Switzerland would have been the country getting attacked and not America and the UK.

What really encourages terrorism of course is imperialism. It's time that America turned away from trying to control the Middle East and towards trying to improve our own country. Giuliani is committed to "staying on offense against terror" according to his website. This is of course will just continue the never ending circle of violence while continuing to create new terrorists. The Iraqi war has been a boon for terrorists. Think about how easy it is to recruit terrorists when they have such good evidence of how evil America is?

The best way to stop terrorism is to stop giving people a reason to hate us in the first place.

And guess what: They don't "hate us for our freedoms," that is nothing more than brainwashing. They hate us because of our policy of intervention in the Middle East.

Iraq

I don't see how a candidate who doesn't understand that the Iraq war is a complete and total disaster that must be abandoned immediately could even be considered for president. Rudy G's comments on Iraq are almost exactly the same as Bush's. Why would we elect another Bush? For God's sake please tell me America wouldn't elect Bush for a 3rd term!

Judges

This is another important issue. The Supreme Court sets the laws in many cases. George W. Bush has unfortunately been able to appoint 2 Supreme Court justices so far. This may be the best reason (of many) to vote Democrat in the general election in 2008.

Abortion

Appropriately enough it's the one issue that Giuliani is right on (he's pro choice) that will probably end up sinking him in the Republican primaries.

Health Care

Health Care is not even listed as one of Giuliani's issues in his "12 Commitments to the American People." Our health care system is absolutely unacceptable and no man (or woman) should be considered for the presidency who is not dedicated to reforming the system. Over 40 million Americans have no health insurance and over another 40 million have minimal health insurance. On top of that many people who think they are covered well by their health insurance learn that they are not when they get sick. The health insurance industry is corrupt to it's core and can never be trusted. Do you really want to leave your health, your livelihood up to a corporation that has nothing but profits (and cutting your coverage any way they can) in mind?
