Michael Steele’s Abortion Comments…

GOP chairman Michael Steele did the unthinkable (for a Republican) in his GQ interview: He stepped into the 21st century on the issue of abortion. He said that abortion is a choice that a woman must make for herself.

Of course this comment has brought out the Republican loonies in force. Ken Blackwell (who sought the same seat Steele now holds and is another token black Republican) said that Steele should “re-read the Bible, the U.S. Constitution, and the 2008 GOP Platform.”

It’s hard to know where to start with such a ridiculous statement. First of all the Bible has nothing to do with anything when it comes to US law. We are not a Christian country and the Bible has no place in this matter. Secondly, the Constitution doesn’t say anything about abortion. Thirdly, the 2008 GOP platform being ridiculously out of touch with reality is exactly why they are no longer in power.

Steele is an idiot. But this time he got it right. What’s most sad is that it’s the rare occurrence of a Republican leader actually saying something that makes sense that gets other Republicans most infuriated.

More and more it’s becoming obvious that the Republicans are in a civil war with themselves. They are now a small niche party for lunatics who are too out of touch with reality to be taken seriously.

  1. Your an idiot. Agreeing with abortion has NOTHING to do with “being in the 21st century” fool. I’m 18 years old and live in NY. It has to do with religious beliefs. Get over yourself and realize not everyone who disagree’s with you is wrong.

  3. Thank you for making my point. “Religious beliefs” should have nothing to do with our laws.
