Obama Back To 50% Approval
By ThePresidentialCandidates.US on Mar 21, 2010 in Barack Obama
President Obama had fallen to as low as 46% approval this week but today Gallup shows a big jump from 47% approval (and 47% disapproval) to 50% approval with just 43% disapproval.
This jump seems to coincide with the news that health care reform is getting closer and closer to being a reality. It will be interesting to see if Obama makes further gains when he signs health care reform into law.
As I noted in my post yesterday, I see a big problem for the Republicans in the coming months as the bill becomes law and it becomes obvious that all of the big “scary” things they’ve been saying would happen are not actually happening at all. How will they explain that to people? How can they continue to lie about what health care reform is when it’s something people are actually experiencing in their own lives?
This seems to be the elephant in the room that I don’t hear many people talking about. Is it just assumed that people will forget all of the things the Republicans have been saying for the past year? Doesn’t it matter that everything they said will turn out to be untrue? There will be no “death panels” and there will be no “government takeover.”
On the other hand, the things President Obama repeatedly said (such as the fact that people can keep their health insurance if they want to) will turn out to be absolutely true. In fact, many people will probably notice very little change at all. And the changes they do see will be mostly very positive ones (think about how well closing the donut hole in Medicare is going to play among seniors.)
