Obama Up In Latest National Rasmussen Poll 50% to 42%

In the latest Rasmussen national poll of Democrats which was released today, Barack Obama leads Hillary Clinton 50% to 42%. This is good news for Democrats as it shows the beginning of unification behind Barack Obama who is almost certainly going to be the Democratic nominee.
Although the race for the Dem. nomination has often been incorrectly portrayed as a “dead heat” by the media, the fact is that Obama has a nearly insurmountable pledged delegate lead over Hillary Clinton. He has won 16 of the last 18 states and his momentum shows no real signs of slowing down.
The bad news for Democrats is that in the Rasmussen general election poll, the presumptive GOP nominee John McCain leads Obama 45% to 44%. It’s likely that McCain’s good showing in this poll is mostly because the Democratic nomination race continues to drag on with the Clinton campaign continually slinging mud at Barack Obama. This has not allowed the Democrats to unify behind Obama.
McCain has essentially the same positions on most major issues as George W. Bush. The extreme unpopularity of Bush, the fact that he is widely considered to be one of the worst presidents in history would seemingly make a continuation of his policies (McCain) an extremely hard sell.
It’s the Democrats job to make sure that the American people recognize that John McCain represents more of the same. That voting for McCain is just like voting for a 3rd term of George W. Bush. More stupid wars, more failed economy, and more disastrous health care.
