President-Elect Obama At 61% Approval
By ThePresidentialCandidates.US on Nov 17, 2008 in Barack Obama
Although it seems somewhat crazy to already be polling approval ratings for someone who will not even become President for another two months, that’s exactly what Rasmussen Reports is doing.
On 11/6, Obama’s approval rating was at 52% (closely corresponding to the 53% Obama won in the popular vote.) As of 11/17 (today) that approval rating is at 61% which means he is already winning over some McCain supporters. That’s a good (very) early sign for Obama.
These approval ratings will carry a lot more importance as the 2012 election starts to heat up in 2011 but even earlier in his Presidency high approval ratings could help him build political capital so that he can push through his initiatives more effectively.
Meanwhile, George W. Bush’s approval ratings are still in the 20s (24% in the latest CNN poll.)
