President Obama’s Q&A With The Republican Obstructionists

If you haven’t seen this yet, you need to. It’s President Obama’s question and answer session with the Republican obstructionists in congress at a GOP retreat:

Obama refuted every single Republican talking point with reason & facts. All of the Republican talking points are either outright lies or distortions of fact.

This becomes obvious when their talking points can be answered like they are in this Q&A rather than spouted out without response like on the right wing echo chamber that is the teabagger network (Fox “News.”)

Republicans are not interested in helping this country, they are only interested in campaigning. They vote “no” on everything no matter what it is (including “Pay As You Go” - so much for being “fiscal conservatives”) not because they are against the policies but because it fits into their political strategy.

Also, anyone who bought into that “Obama needs a teleprompter” meme has been proven to be a complete idiot by this impressive performance by the President.

  1. Did anyone notice that even before the Republican finished asking a question, he was already on the defensive and tried his best to make it look like they were lying.I’m glad it was shown on TV, for all the world to see what a idiot we have as President. The more this Clown opens his mouth, the more he shoots himself in the foot and shows just how immature he really is.

  2. to “News” - President Obama didn’t have to “try” to make it look like they were lying. They WERE lying. President Obama made that obvious.

Get your head out of your ass.

  3. I’m sorry, I must have missed the CNN televised health care discussions Obama talked about during his campaign and the new era of openness his government would have. The Obama administration hasn’t distinguished itself much from President George W. Bush so far when it comes to Iraq war, an open government or stimulus spending. He is just good ol Bush in a new wrapper :)

  4. He’s nothing like Bush. You are intellectually dishonest.

  5. How exactly are the Republicans obstructing anything? The Democrats have the majority and can pass anything they want. You are the one with your head up your ass.

  6. Sally - certainly that should be the case but with the Republicans filibustering everything the Democrats need 60 votes instead of 50 votes (+Biden) to get anything passed.

The abuse of the filibuster by the Republicans (it’s being used far more often than it’s ever been used before) is how they are obstructing the work of the Senate.

They are doing this not on policy grounds but for political purposes. They want to see Obama fail at any cost. They don’t care how much they hurt the country if it helps their political prospects.

The fact that the rules of the Senate are set up to allow this to happen is the real issue. This is not democratic.

And yes, this is where it’s up to the Democrats. They have to realize that no matter what they do the Republicans will not work with them. The Republicans are not operating in good faith, they do not care about this country. At all. They only care about playing politics.

So the Democrats must figure out a way around the filibuster because as long as the GOP abuses it, this country is screwed.

It’s time to remove the filibuster from the Senate rules. It was never meant to be abused in this fashion.

  7. Dear Admin
You are obviously not an impartial moderator. It is clear that Obama is not really willing to incorporate conservative ideas into his blind march to make his Health Plan a reality. I respect him as my President and in many ways, I really like him. He is a great speaker and has the potential to be a great leader. I simply wish that he would move away this tunnel vision he has.

  8. Vickie - you are uninformed on this issue. Not only is Obama “willing to incorporate conservative ideas” but there are many conservative ideas in the current health care plan.

In fact, the current health care plan is almost identical to the REPUBLICAN proposed health care plan in the early ’90s.

Despite right wing lies to the contrary - this is not a radical health care plan - it’s a very moderate one. Anything less than what it’s already been whittled down to would be absolutely worthless.

What we really need is MEDICARE FOR ALL. But unfortunately the health insurance industry has way too much power and hasn’t allowed that to even be on the table. Until we get control of our country back from corporate interests we will not be able to make serious progress in the US.
