Right Wing Christian Fundamentalist Terrorists Really Do “Hate Us For Our Freedom”

Yesterday’s killing of Dr. George Tiller (who has been a target of right wing anti-abortion groups and hate mongerers such as Bill O’Reilly for many years) was an act of terrorism.

What I think is quite ironic about this group of terrorists (besides the fact that they are “pro life” people who commit murder) is that they really do “hate us for our freedom.”

When former President George W. Bush used this “they hate us for our freedom” phrase in regards to those who committed the terrorist attacks on 9/11 it was actually way off target. Why? Because “our freedom” didn’t really have anything to do with those attacks. Instead they were a reaction to our foreign policy (the United States has been meddling in the middle east for a very long time and they don’t like what we do there.)

But these home grown terrorists do hate us (real Americans who know that this country is not founded on religion but on freedom) because of our freedom. They hate it when people do drugs (the strongest proponents of the War on Drugs tend to be Christian fundamentalists) or drink alcohol (alcohol prohibition of the 1920s? That was their handy work), they hate songs and books that contain words they don’t agree with (album & book burnings), they hate gay marriage, and of course most of all they hate it when women have the right to do what they want with their own bodies.

There is no one more anti-American than a right wing Christian fundamentalist. These people have no understanding of what it means to be an American. They have much more in common with Muslim fundamentalists than they do with Benjamin Franklin or Thomas Jefferson. They simply don’t believe in freedom, what they believe in is religious fascism. Most frightening is that some of them seem willing to commit acts of terror to try to scare people into living the way they want them to.
