Show Your Support For Single Payer Health Care

The real solution to the health care problem in America isn’t a convoluted “co-op” scheme or even “the public option” (although that would be better than nothing) the real solution is obvious: Single Payer Health Care.

What’s “single payer”? It’s a true universal health care program that would work basically like “Medicare for all.” And considering the great popularity of Medicare in this country, it seems like people (including many Republicans) would actually very much support this concept if they really understood how it would work.

Remember that all of the same arguments the right wing is making against “government run health care” in 2009 are the same arguments they made against Medicare in the 1960s. They were wrong then, and they are wrong today. The only people who really benefit from the current corrupt health care system are the private insurance companies.

Right now there are many people who are being whipped into a frenzy to fight against their own self interest by the right wingers. This story is an example. Even people who are currently using “government run health care” (ie: Medicare) are saying they are against it. If it wasn’t for Medicare many of these people would have no health care coverage at all, yet they are out there campaigning against it because they’ve been brainwashed by right wingers into opposing all government programs.

It’s truly insane. Wake up America. Realize who is on your side. It’s not the private insurance industry, that is for sure. They will cut you loose in any way they can if you start to cost them money (ie: when you need them the most.)

That’s one of the things that most scary about our current system. Not only that many people can’t get coverage because of pre-existing conditions. Not only that the costs are sky rocketing and will eventually bankrupt our entire country (after bankrupting many families.) But that insurance companies routinely cut sick people from their health insurance plans when they (obviously) need their insurance the most. They do this to “cut costs.”

Think about that. What’s the point of having health insurance if they can find a way to cut you from your policy as soon you start costing them money?!

This isn’t just about the 50 million people without health insurance. It’s about adding security to the life of every American. It’s about making it so our lives aren’t considered secondary to the billions of dollars of profits that the private health insurance companies are making.
