Stock Market Returns

The following rankings are for the last 12 Presidents, from Herbert Hoover through George W. Bush. They are based on the movement of the S&P500 during each President’s time in office.

It’s a good indication of just how big a failure George W. Bush’s two terms as President have been economically. The only President ranked below him is Herbert Hoover who was President during the Great Depression.

1. Franklin D. Roosevelt (D) +336%
2. Bill Clinton (D) +259%
3. Dwight Eisenhower (R) +216%
4. Ronald Reagan (R) +200%
5. Harry Truman (R) +185%
6. George Bush Sr. (R) +73%
7. Lyndon B. Johnson (D) +65%
8. Jimmy Carter (D) +56%
9. Gerald Ford (R) +33%
10. Richard Nixon (R) -10%
11. George W. Bush (R) -28%, and still dropping fast.
12. Herbert Hoover (R) -68%

The top two gainers are Democrats and the bottom four losers are Republicans. Coincidence? Are you willing to take a risk on John McCain during a time of economic crisis? That doesn’t seem wise.

  1. HERBERT Hoover. Outside of that slight error, very good post. Having said that, I’m surprised that more people are not commenting. You have an excellent site. Concise articles mixed with videos is a great way to keep up with the latest campaign developments without having to wade through volumes of text, as one must do on other blogs. Keep it up! Please continue after the election.
