The South: Home To The “Birthers”
By ThePresidentialCandidates.US on Aug 1, 2009 in Barack Obama
Take a look at this chart:
The 10-15% of crazy people in the Northeast, Midwest, & West isn’t that shocking. There’s always a certain percentage of totally out of touch uneducated loons but the numbers in the South are pretty disturbing. It appears to be a mainstream belief in the south to question the irrefutable fact that President Obama was born in the United States of America.
Are people really that much more stupid in the south? Is the education there that much worse? Or is this just a race thing? Is this just a matter of racist rednecks in the south being so upset over the fact that the President is black that they are willing to believe in any insane conspiracy theory in order to feel better about it?
Read this blog entry about the Birther movement. It details the possible reasons for why the south is so taken with Birtherism.

People are afraid to be wrong, even when they already know. Southerns are stubborn ;D. That’s just my observation from living down here for 25 years.
