Zogby: Pennsylvania Is Deadlocked
By ThePresidentialCandidates.US on Apr 17, 2008 in Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton
The Newsmax/Zogby poll released today gives Hillary Clinton a statistically insignificant 45% to 44% lead over Barack Obama. This poll was taken on April 15 & April 16. The chances of a Clinton blowout (which she needs to revive her dying campaign) appear small at this point and the likelihood of an impressive come from behind win for Obama has increased, particularly with 9% of voters in this poll saying they are not sure who they will vote for and momentum on Obama’s side.
John Zogby says that Clinton’s relentless negative campaigning is backfiring on her. “This is not a year for negative campaigning and Clinton’s pounding of Obama on his controversial description of small town voters in Pennsylvania does not seem to be working. Obama leads in the Philadelphia and eastern part of the Commonwealth, among African Americans, and Very Liberal Pennsylvanians. He also has a slight lead among voters in union households and has an 18 point margin over those who have lost a job” he said.
The poll was taken before the debate last night but considering that most of the attention on that debate is on the awful job that ABC News did more than anything the candidates said, it seems unlikely that that debate will sway many voters either way.
